Code of Conduct
Attendees of Brook Con are welcomed guests at Stony Brook University, thus attendees are subject to the policies of both the con and the university. We want to keep a safe and fun environment for everyone to enjoy, and to do so we need your cooperation in following our policies. Violations will not be tolerated.
Failure to comply with the code of conduct may result in:
Attendees are expected to follow the Stony Brook Policies as well as the Brook Con guidelines.
Failure to comply with the code of conduct may result in:
- Discussion with staff about one’s misconduct
- Ejection from the event
- Ban from future events

PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES ON CAMPUS
These are not all of the policies that SBU requires guests to follow, but they are the more relevant ones to keep in mind. You may refer to the Stony Brook Policy Manual if you wish to see all the university policies.
HARASSMENT
To create a welcoming environment for all lovers of anime and nerd culture, any forms of assault or harassment be it verbal, physical, direct or indirect are strictly prohibited. Harassment includes offenses which one would perform to annoy, alarm, or physically harm another person.
PHOTOGRAPHY
By attending Brook Con, you agree to the fact that we may take crowd shots of the event and you may be present in those photos that we may use for our website and social media.
It is prohibited to take pictures/videos of individuals without their permission. You may take crowd shots of the event, but you are not allowed to take photos of individual people without asking first.
If you suspect or find someone taking photos of you without your permission, please report it to the con staff.
- Harassment or disrespectful behavior towards attendees, vendors, con staff, and campus employees.
- Soliciting services.
- Disruptive behavior that disturbs the public or puts individuals at risk of their safety.
- Smoking tobacco, marijuana, or other substances.

Cosplay Guidelines/Dress Code
Clothing MUST cover breasts, genitals, and buttocks areas, regardless of gender.
GENERAL ATTIRE
No nudity or explicit attire.
This convention is designed to be open for people of all ages.
Explicit attire includes but is not limited to:
For those wearing a bodysuit, it's recommended to wear a dance belt or other methods to avoid form-fit around the groin, avoid opaque bodysuits, and wear undergarments under the bodysuit.
Shoes are required to be worn at all times.
For our attendees' health and safety, we will require all attendees to wear shoes. The shoes must at least cover the soles completely.
No discriminatory attire.
Cosplay, apparel, and items related to hate groups or hate speech are not allowed at Brook Con.
Cosplays which contain symbols similar to hate speech or groups but are not related to the hate speech or groups must conceal the symbol when cosplaying.
Examples:
WEAPON PROPS
No real weapons are allowed. Weapon props are allowed, but they must NOT look extremely realistic. People should be able to clearly tell it is fake from a distance.

- Characters from Tokyo Revengers such as Manjiro Sano or Takemichi Hanagaki are allowed to be cosplayed as, however any semblance of a swastika must be concealed or taped.
- Characters directly based on Nazis like The Major or Schrödinger from Hellsing are not allowed even if Nazi symbols were hidden.
- Characters loosely based on history are allowed such as any Zeons character from Gundam or the Stormtroopers from Star Wars.
WEAPON PROPS
No real weapons are allowed. Weapon props are allowed, but they must NOT look extremely realistic. People should be able to clearly tell it is fake from a distance.
- Prop weapons made of cardboard, foam, or similar light material are allowed.
- No metal, sharp or heavy blunt weapons.
- Projectile props must be rendered inoperable. Arrows are allowed, but they must NOT have sharp edges or be made of metal.
- No weapons that closely resemble real guns. Nerf guns and water guns ARE allowed.
